Fear and control often work together.
When we are afraid, we try to control everything around us.
We want to know what will happen.
We want to know when it will happen.
We want to know how it will happen.
We want guarantees.
But faith doesn’t require guarantees.
Faith requires trust.
Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us to trust in the Lord rather than relying completely on our own understanding.
Fear Is Not Your Master
2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear…”
— NKJV
Fear may knock on your door, but you don’t have to invite it inside.
Fear may speak, but you don’t have to obey it.
Fear may tell you to stop, but God may be saying, “Keep going.”
Spiritual freedom means learning to distinguish between God’s voice and the voice of fear.
Release the Need to Control
There are things we can influence.
There are things we can prepare for.
And there are things we simply have to place in God’s hands.
You cannot control everyone’s response.
You cannot control tomorrow.
You cannot control every circumstance.
You cannot control how quickly God answers a prayer.
But you can control your response.
You can pray.
You can trust.
You can obey.
You can surrender.
This Week’s Challenge
Make two lists:
What I Can Control
and
What I Need to Give God
Then surrender the second list in prayer.
Reflection
What are you trying to control that God is asking you to trust Him with?
What would happen if you exchanged your need for control for deeper faith?
Prayer
Father, I surrender my need to control everything. I release my fears, my questions, and my expectations. Help me trust You when I cannot see the outcome. Give me courage to move forward in faith and peace to leave the things I cannot control in Your hands. Amen.
