“Surrender Is Not Giving Up”
Scripture:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5
Control can feel like security.
We think if we plan enough, prepare enough, worry enough, or anticipate every possible outcome, we can prevent disappointment.
But there are things we simply cannot control.
We cannot control other people’s decisions.
We cannot control every outcome.
We cannot control timing.
We cannot control the past.
We cannot control how everyone perceives us.
And we cannot control what God has already placed in His hands.
The Deeper Lesson
Surrender does not mean that we stop caring. It means that we stop trying to be God.
There is a difference between responsibility and control.
We are responsible for our choices.
We are responsible for our obedience.
We are responsible for our effort.
But the outcome belongs to God.
Sometimes we become exhausted because we are trying to carry something that was never ours to carry.
We pray about it but then pick it back up.
We surrender it, then worry about it.
We give it to God, then take it back the next morning.
God is whispering:
“Leave it with Me.”
Trusting God’s Timing
Letting go of control also means trusting God’s timing.
We may want an immediate answer.
God may be preparing us.
We may want a door to open.
God may be protecting us from the wrong door.
We may want something to happen now.
God may know that later is better.
Faith says:
“God, I don’t understand it, but I trust You.”
That is where peace begins.
Ask Yourself
- What am I trying desperately to control?
- What situation continues to steal my peace?
- Have I truly surrendered it to God, or am I still carrying it?
- Can I trust God even if the answer is different from what I want?
- What would it look like to release this today?
Prayer
Lord, teach me the difference between doing my part and trying to control the outcome. Help me release the things I cannot change. Quiet my anxious thoughts and strengthen my trust in You. When I am tempted to take back what I have surrendered, remind me that You are faithful. I choose to trust Your timing, Your wisdom, and Your plan. Amen.
